Start with your days, rather than the star rating
When planning an Istanbul trip from Morocco, your hotel’s location shapes your days as much as the room category does. Before comparing proposals, identify three priorities: the places you want to visit, your preferred pace and the people travelling with you. A hotel that suits a couple’s week of sightseeing may not meet the same needs as a family stay with plenty of free time.
Old City or Taksim: useful reference points
Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism places several historic monuments in the Sultanahmet area and describes Beyoğlu–Taksim as an area for shopping and urban walks. Use these reference points when discussing your stay. The label “Old City” does not establish an exact address or walking distance: always request the precise location of the proposed hotel.
Check the actual journey from your hotel
Find the property’s entrance on a map and compare it with two or three places you plan to visit. Distinguish a straight-line distance from a walking route. Ask whether you will travel independently, use transport specified in the programme or need to book a separate service. Avoid building a day around an assumed journey time: timing, transport choices and traffic conditions need to be considered.
Clarify the room being offered
Depending on the proposal, a double room may have one large bed or two separate beds. A triple room does not, by itself, describe the sleeping arrangements. State the number of travellers, children’s ages and your preferences, then ask about the room category, proposed beds and any requests that cannot be guaranteed. If you need a lift or accessible facilities, have the actual arrangements checked before confirming.
Match the location to your programme
Browse our Istanbul programmes, then distinguish guided days from free days in the detailed itinerary. Check meeting points for visits and any journeys you would need to pay for yourself. For the November and December Istanbul programme, request the proposal for your chosen departure and hotel. The programme page remains the reference for the advertised services; availability still needs confirmation.
Compare quotations on the same basis
Keep dates, number of nights and room occupancy consistent. Ask which meals, transfers and visits are actually included, as well as the supplements and amendment or cancellation conditions. If a proposal names a hotel “or similar”, ask how a change would be communicated and which criteria would be considered. A price difference is not necessarily explained by the hotel category alone.
A brief to send your adviser
“Hello, we are planning an Istanbul stay for [travellers and children’s ages], from [date] to [date]. Our priorities are [sightseeing, rest, evenings out or other needs]. We would like [room type and beds] and prefer [area, or advice on the area]. Please specify the hotel address, proposed room, services and total price.” If your needs call for a different arrangement, send a tailor-made travel request.
